The former coach has now left Ukraine due to Russian aggression.

The Portuguese embassy has flown Fonseca and his family,

as well as Shrewsbury players Agga Cordoso and Phillip Pisuza, by bus to Moldova.

Fonseca’s family arrived in Ukraine on February 24.

He was scheduled to leave Kiev but was stranded in Ukraine after all Russian flights were delayed due to a bombing at the airport.

While staying at a hotel in Kiev, Fonseca said: “When I woke up at 5 am, I heard five explosions in a row.

In fact, we were about to leave Ukraine on February 24, but the airport was destroyed and our flights were postponed.

It was the worst day of my life.” He called for help to be known before Ukraine was released.
